Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

Our online BSN to AGACNP graduate program is designed to allow you to work and pursue your nursing education simultaneously. The curriculum was developed in accordance with the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF), meaning it aims to ensure that you graduate with the knowledge, skills and abilities to practice as a gerontological nurse practitioner.

Admissions Requirements

To become an adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner, a prospective student needs an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) and a current RN Licensure, which is earned after passing the NCLEX-RN examination. 

The final step is to obtain an MSN with a concentration in Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nursing Practice, after which a student must take and pass the ANCC or AACN's Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) board certification examination.

To qualify for our online MSN program, you must:

  • Hold a BSN from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Hold a current, unencumbered RN license
  • Have at least one year of full-time work experience as an RN prior to registration in the clinical or specialty courses
  • Have completed an undergraduate-level statistics course with a “C” or higher
  • Have at least one year of acute care experience, preferably in an ICU setting

    The faculty admissions committee may look more closely at nursing and science grades when making admissions decisions.

Transfer Credit Policy for MSN Adult Gerontology Care Nurse Students

  • A maximum of 9 graduate credits, completed within the past 5 years from a previously earned graduate degree, may be transferred.
  • A grade of “B” or higher is required.
  • The Advanced Standing Request form must be submitted during the admissions process for transfer credits to be considered.

* Students enrolled in GPNG 535 are required to come to campus for three days. In addition to the campus residency visit, precepted clinical hours are also required for GPNG 535. **Students enrolled in GNAG 502 and GNAG 503 must also complete the three day on-campus requirement.


**Courses are considered clinical courses. Students must refer to the Graduate Student Handbook for all clinical policies and procedures specific to their program.
