School of Nursing Clinical Coordinator for Online Programs, Leigh Anne Rethage, BS, BSN, RN, was selected to serve on the PNSWPA Scholarship Committee.

The Professional Nurses of Southwester PA Scholarship Fund recently chose Leigh Anne Rethage, BS, BSN, RN to serve on the PNSWPA Scholarship Committee. Her qualifications and expertise stood out among the applicants for the position and the current committee members agreed that Rethage would be a valuable asset to continuing the goal of the Scholarship Committee, which is to evaluate applicants and choose new recipients to award nursing scholarships.

Funded by The Pittsburgh Foundation, the PNSWPA facilitates the disbursement of monetary awards to applicants. Committee members are responsible for reviewing the applicant’s submission materials and determining the candidate’s merit. The scholarships enable students to continue their nursing education without the burden of added debt, especially when many programs require them to stop working.

The PNSWPA was created to provide scholarships for nursing students of all levels living within the nine counties of Southwestern PA. The Committee was organized to be a strong supporter of nursing education for the residents of Southwestern PA. The Committee’s commitment to nursing and to filling the nursing shortage is to offer scholarships at every level to nursing students. The group and its founders have been leaders in nursing education since 1925.

Today, the Committee has evolved into a group of nurses who want to continue the tradition of passing the “lamp of nursing” forward to worthy recipients who display the qualities of outstanding service and leadership. As a member of the committee, Rethage will be able to further support students entering the field of nursing.

Congratulations to Rethage on this great honor, and we are proud to recognize that she continues to live the mission of the School of Nursing to support the next generation of health care workers.
