Biography
Dr. Garrett Kellar received his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he won the Young Alumni Achievement Award in 2023. He received his Doctorate in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. Before receiving his doctorate, Dr. Kellar worked as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist for over 16 years in cardiac and pulmonary rehab, and exercise testing and prescription for older adults. Dr. Kellar holds the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Clinical Exercise Physiologist and Exercise Physiologist certifications, as well as the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Certified Cardiac Rehab Professional certification. In addition to these certifications, he holds the ACSM Exercise is Medicine Level 3 credential.
Dr. Kellar has given multiple talks and presented multiple posters at local and national ACSM and AACVPR conferences. He has first authored and co-authored on multiple papers within cardiac and pulmonary rehab, function and exercise as medicine. Additionally, Dr. Kellar is the editor of multiple ACSM textbooks and has created ancillary materials many other textbooks. In addition to these, he has also authored multiple practice-oriented materials, blogs and articles. Dr. Kellar has also been a part of multiple item writing teams where he’s written questions for ACSM and AACVPR certification exams. Dr. Kellar and a colleague also created an Exercise Prescription curriculum for the Family Medicine Residency Curriculum Resource.
Dr. Kellar is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation and the Clinical Exercise Physiology Association. He is involved with multiple committees in these associations and is currently the Chair of AACVPR’s Professional Certification Commission.
