Kyle Bathgate

Dr. Bathgate teaches core classes in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Science at Duquesne University. His research focuses on transportation system resilience, with a specialization in maritime systems and multimodal freight data applications, and he serves as a member of the Transportation Research Board Standing Committee on Freight Data.

Originally from southern Illinois, Dr. Bathgate earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. His doctoral research focused on resilience assessment of maritime port systems using automatic identification system vessel tracking data to measure anchorage queues. Dr. Bathgate has research experience working on federal and state agency grants, as well as private sector experience in roadway construction and pavement management.

Dr. Bathgate is interested in teaching students how to make our infrastructure longer-lasting, more sustainable, and accessible to all.
