Drawing on the philosophical anthropology articulated by Thomas Aquinas, speaker Dr. Jason Eberl will affirm the ontological significance of embodiment and a human being’s essential nature qua animal. A reception will follow.

The Center for Excellence in Diversity and Student Inclusion hosts its annual Spirit of Diversity Celebration to inspire students and the University community and to address multicultural issues. City of Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey will serve as keynote speaker. Guests must RSVP online.

The Center for Migration, Displacement and Community Studies and the Center for Hispanic Studies present a screening of Oles Sanin’s The Guide. The film follows the story of an American boy and a blind minstrel thrown together by fate in mid-1930s Soviet Ukraine.

Wednesday, April 17, 4:30 to 6 p.m., Africa Room, Duquesne Union: Artificial Intelligence and the Experience of Poverty: A Tech Ethics Book Discussion
Organized by the Carl G. Grefenstette Center for Ethics in Science, Technology and Law, the event will address Levi Chekett’s new book, Poor Technology: Artificial Intelligence and the Experience of Poverty. The event is free and refreshments will be provided.
