Mary Pappert School of Music January Events
Students and faculty of the Mary Pappert School of Music present more than 200 annual concerts and recitals, including the popular Music on the Bluff and the Uptown Jazz series. Check out their diverse offerings for January.

Jan. 13 to Jan. 31, Popular Reading Room, Gumberg Library: "What We Brought with Us" Exhibition and Presentation
This exhibition features items people took with them when they fled persecution, suffering and war. The display will run from Jan. 13 to 31. Dr. Lydia Schmuck, academic coordinator at the Academy in Exile, will lead a conversation about the exhibit on Jan. 23 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Guests are asked to register in advance for the presentation.
 
Thursday, Jan. 16, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. (Hogan Dining Center), 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. (Union Atrium): Donuts with the President
President Ken Gormley invites the campus community to enjoy donuts, coffee and hot chocolate to kick off the new semester. 
 
Wednesday, Jan. 29, noon, Room 613, Union: Russo Lecture
Dr. Leswin Laubscher, psychology professor, discusses what is meant by study-abroad learning, reflecting on findings from his research facilitating years of students going abroad. 

Friday, Jan. 31, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Room 119, Union, and via Zoom: Forensic Fridays: PTSD and the Law: Worker's Compensation, Veterans and Criminal Applications
Join child and adolescent psychiatrist Dr. Manuel Reich and attorneys Vincent and Michael Quatrini as they discuss a host of cases and issues pertaining to litigation stemming from PTSD claims. This program, presented by the Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law, is approved by the Pennsylvania CLE board for three hours of substantive CLE credit. Registration is required. 
 
February, Fourth Floor, College Hall: Catholic Studies Black Saints Exhibit: A Tremendous Light
Visit College Hall during the month of February for an exhibit celebrating the lives of the six Black American Catholics currently in the process of canonization.  
 
Saturday, Feb. 1, 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Room 204, Thomas R. Kline School of Law: Fundamentals of the Pennsylvania Constitution presented by Professor Bruce Ledewitz
Offered in person and via Zoom, this Continuing Legal Education course presents the basic issues that have arisen in Pennsylvania Constitutional Law over the past 50 years. Online registration is required. 
 
Monday, Feb. 10, 4 to 5:30 p.m., Africa Room, Union: Pittsburgh and the Great Migration – A Screening and Roundtable Discussion
The annual Black History Month Lecture, hosted by the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts, features a viewing of the documentary Pittsburgh and the Great Migration, followed by a roundtable discussion with local historians.
 
Sunday, Feb. 23, 1 p.m. (reception) and 2:30 p.m. (concert), Heinz Hall, 600 Penn Ave., Pittsburgh, 15222: Duquesne Day at the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra
Spend an afternoon with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra featuring Maestro Manfred Honeck. A reception with light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will precede a concert with pianist Emmanuel Ax, who will perform a variety of selections with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. President Gormley will bestow an honorary degree on Honeck and recognize Duquesne faculty who perform with the symphony. Advance registration by Wednesday, Feb. 12, is required, and there is a fee to attend.
