Upcoming Changes to FLSA

The Department of Labor has issued a final rule changing the salary threshold for employees to be considered "Exempt" (not entitled to overtime) under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Effective January 1, 2020, the new salary threshold will be $684 per week or $35,568 annually.

University departments that have employees whose positions are implicated by the new rule will be contacted by the Compensation Manager, Maureen Burt to determine available options under the new rule.

CUPA-HR Selects Duquesne for 2019 Eastern Region HR Excellence Award

The College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) Eastern Region board of directors has selected Duquesne's Minority Professional Development Leadership Program to receive the 2019 Eastern Region HR Excellence Award.

The award honors transformative human resources work in higher education, recognizing individuals or teams who have provided human resources leadership resulting in significant and ongoing organizational change within their institutions.

"We're honored to receive this prestigious award and grateful for the opportunity to showcase Duquesne University's efforts to build a diverse and inclusive workforce," said Ryan Dawson, senior director and deputy Title IX coordinator for the Office of Human Resources.

In addition, Duquesne's Minority Professional Development Leadership Program will be submitted to the CUPA-HR national awards committee for consideration for the national HR Excellence Award.

"We're especially thankful to Marla Bradford, senior recruiter diversity leader in the Office of Human Resources, for nominating the Minority Professional Development Leadership Program and her continued efforts to enhance the program," Dawson said.

Duquesne and other Eastern Region awards recipients will be honored at the CUPA-HR Spring Conference, which will be held from Thursday, March 28, to Saturday, March 30 in Washington, D.C.
