On October 4, 2023, the School celebrated both the renovation of Rockwell Hall’s 7th floor and the generosity of Eugene Beard with a dedication ceremony and reception.
The event was held in the Welcome Center of the Eugene P. Beard Center for Student Success, an airy multi-purpose space that is the heart of the new 7th floor. The ceremony began with a welcome from Dr. Dean McFarlin, who thanked Mr. Beard and the entire Beard family for their support. Fr. Raymond French bestowed a blessing on the floor and all in attendance, before Olivia Green, President of the Palumbo-Donahue Student Advisory Council, offered heartfelt thanks on behalf of business students.
Duquesne University President Ken Gormley spoke not only of Mr. Beard’s generosity to the School of Business but also of his longstanding support of Duquesne. “Your vision and generosity have changed the lives of countless students and faculty members,” he said, addressing Mr. Beard and his family. During the dedication, President Gormley also announced the creation of a new $1 million endowed University chair in Mr. Beard’s honor.
After the remarks concluded, the Beard family and more than 50 guests enjoyed refreshments in the new Center.
