Robert T. Wanovich, Pharm.D. (P'89, GP'91)
joined the Century Club–a group of distinguished Duquesne University alumni–on October, 11. Established in 1978, the Century Club recognizes Duquesne University alumni with exemplary records of professional achievement and service to Duquesne University and the community. Currently the Vice President for Market Strategy and Delivery with Highmark, Inc., Wanovich oversees prescription drug benefit and specialty pharmacy programs for Highmark–a nearly $3 billion annual operation. Wanovich started as an adjunct assistant professor of pharmacy practice in 1995 and holds positions on the Duquesne University Alumni Board of Governors and the Pharmacy Dean's Advisory Council.

Dean J. Douglas Bricker, Ph.D. and Duquesne University Provost Ralph Pearson, Ph.D. joined representatives from the School of Pharmacy and Giant Eagle in a dedication ceremony on April 17 to unveil the Giant Eagle Center for Pharmacy Practice at the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy. The Giant Eagle Center for Pharmacy Practice gives student pharmacists a place to reinforce and enhance learning by showing the relationship between lectures and practice.

Aleem Gangjee, Ph.D., professor of medicinal chemistry, received five new patents between August and November 2012 for the discovery of cancer-fighting compounds and compounds that treat infections in AIDS patients. Next steps include partnering with a pharmacetuical company to get the compounds to market.
