Biography

David Barr began professionally tuning pianos in 1974. Later, in 1979, he joined the Piano Technicians Guild, serving for four years as Vice President of the Pittsburgh Chapter and four years as President. He also served two terms each as Secretary, Vice President, and President of the Pennsylvania State Conference of the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG), where he also sat on several National Committees.

David has taught at a number of local, regional, and national conferences and has published several articles for the Piano Technicians Journal. He has served as Senior Concert Technician for Trombino Piano Gallery and is the owner and operator of Pittsburgh Piano Shop. He has created comprehensive guides and documentation for the precision rebuilding of grand actions and has developed a method for analyzing and voicing of pianos.

An in-demand piano technician in the Pittsburgh area, David has been the official piano technician for The Benedum Center for the Performing Arts and the Byham Theater since 1992 and the Cabaret Theater since its opening. He has also been the personal technician for concert pianist Barbara Nissman since 2000 and technician for the Mary Pappert School of Music at Duquesne University since 1990.
