From a young age, Tracie McCormick, GB’26, knew she wanted to work with money. What she didn’t know was how high her potential could fly. Decades after earning her undergraduate degree, she returned to graduate school at the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business and landed her dream job as airport treasurer.
Jack Maxwell, A’29, grew up on his family’s ancestral homestead near Clarion, Pa., right at the entrance to Cook Forest State Park. He graduated with a class of 48 students, and the tiny-but-mighty school housed six grade levels in just three hallways. Now an Honors College student double-majoring in psychology and rhetoric and pursuing minors in creative writing and health and human services, Jack reflects on his rural upbringing with gratitude.

Jazz improvisation and particle physics rarely share the same spotlight, but at Duquesne University, Gabriel Pecar has spent five years mastering both.
“I often met with my mentor and went to Conway Scholar events to help guide me
through school. Duquesne provides many extra opportunities to help students succeed.
I learned that I am capable of much more than I realized.”
My interview day on campus was wonderful. It felt like home. The faculty made
me feel like they cared about the students, much more than any other school I visited.
“Anything I need, I go in the Liberal Arts office and they guide me. They prepare
me for interviews, and when I got my internship, they were some of the first people
I told.”
“No matter what major you’re in at Duquesne, every program does really well in
tying what you do in the classroom with real-life experiences you’ll have in your
workplace.”
“Being part of a smaller program allowed me to have more one-on-one time with
my professors and peers. Those personal interactions really allowed me to grow as
a researcher and put me in a great position to receive the Goldwater Scholarship.”

The Bridges Common Learning Experience, a cornerstone of the undergraduate experience at Duquesne, has a new leader: Dr. John Kern, associate dean of the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts. He assumed the role on July 1, 2026.
Duquesne University's Palumbo-Donahue School of Business has named nationally recognized commercial real estate executive Patrick J. Sentner as inaugural director of its Real Estate program, launching in Fall 2026. Sentner brings more than 35 years of commercial real estate experience and an extensive network of industry relationships.
Dr. Joris Gielen, director and associate professor in the Center for Global Health Ethics and Eugene P. Beard Endowed Chair in Professional Ethics, has been selected as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar for the 2026-2027 academic year.
