Lawrenceville Resident Named Fellow of International Conductors Exchange Program
Duquesne University Assistant Professor and Director of Choral Activities Dr. Caron Daley was selected as a 2017 International Conductors Exchange Program (ICEP) Conducting Fellow by the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA).
As a fellow, Daley had the opportunity to represent the ACDA during the 2017 ICEP of the Americas exchange program in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The ACDA hosted conductors from Central and South American countries who were guests at the National Conference of the ACDA in Minneapolis, Minn. In turn, those countries hosted American conducting fellows.
While in Buenos Aires, Daley conducted master classes and workshops with practitioners and students as a goodwill ambassador for the choral profession.
“My experience working with Argentinian choirs was eye-opening and deeply fulfilling,” Daley said of the experience. “Choral music is a major part of the Latin American culture.”
The program allowed for cross-cultural teaching and learning, which Daley intends to use in her fall 2017 instruction and programming.
“Choirs exist in workplaces, schools, universities and in the community. Many young people are studying to become choral conductors,” added Daley. “My time in Argentina was a fascinating glimpse into a rich and diverse choral world.”
A resident of Lawrenceville, Daley earned her D.M.A. in choral conducting from the University of Toronto. She conducts the Voices of Spirit, Pappert Women’s and University Singers choral ensembles at Duquesne.
Through the ICEP and its related activities, the ACDA has provided numerous opportunities to directly engage with conductors, choirs, repertoire and choral traditions from around the world.
