Tech Ethics Symposium 

Each Fall, the Grefenstette Center hosts a major conference featuring a wide variety of perspectives on pressing issues of technology, ethics, policy, business, and religion, featuring poster sessions, scholarly discussions, public lectures, and student competitions. 

Hacking4Humanity 

Each Spring, a weeklong tech and policy hackathon event is held for undergraduate and graduate students across Pittsburgh: Hacking4Humanity. The event offers students a new way to engage with real-world social problems that can be improved with novel technical and policy solutions. Students are paired with industry advisors, and judges are selected from related industries and academia! 

Public Lectures 

A central goal of the Center is to engage the community with new and pressing ideas at the intersection of AI, technology ethics, religious ethics, and Catholic social teaching. Regular lectures occur throughout the year and are offered in-person and virtually for the widest possible dissemination. 

Fellows & Scholars 

The Center thrives due to our external fellow and faculty scholar programs. Each year the Center names several subject matter experts as Grefenstette Fellows, drawing from academia and industry. Additionally, the Center also names 8-12 Duquesne University faculty members to its annual scholars program, where faculty work on pedagogy and research projects and participate in regular colloquia.
