COVID-19 Service Modifications

Adhering to the University's COVID-19 guidelines, Computing and Technology Services (CTS) is making the following changes to its service offerings for the fall semester.

CTS Help Desk support

The CTS Help Desk currently offers phone, email, online chat support and appointment-based walk-in assistance at the Help Desk Service Center located on the second floor of the Union.

Below are the CTS Help Desk's hours of operations for the fall 2020 semester.

  • In-person: The Help Desk Service Center located on the second floor of the Union is open for appointments only. You can schedule an appointment through online chat by clicking "Need Help?" in the bottom right corner. Due to the need for social distancing, walk-ins without an appointment are discouraged.

Computer Store services

The Duquesne University Computer Store is open Monday–Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. To promote social distancing, the number of customers in the Computer Store's retail space will be limited. When arriving, please ring the doorbell outside the Computer Store and wait for a staff member to let you inside.

University cell phone updates

Cell phones, MiFi devices, upgrades and changes can still be ordered and processed. An email confirmation from a dean, vice president or assistant vice president is required to ship a cell phone or hotspot to an employee's residential address. Please complete the cell phone request form for any upgrades and changes to a University-owned cell phone.

If you need a stronger internet connection at home, you can:

  • Order a MiFi device to create a Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Add a mobile hotspot to your University-owned iPhone.
Ordering a MiFi device to create a Wi-Fi hotspot

A MiFi device will be provided at no charge, but you will need to purchase a hotspot plan. AT&T's unlimited plan is $50 per month and provides unlimited domestic Wi-Fi hotspot data. You can cancel at any time with zero fees.

Note: Due to increased domestic demand, the delivery of MiFi devices may take up to 4–6 weeks.

Add a mobile hotspot to your University-owned iPhone

For an additional $10 per month, a mobile hotspot can be added to your University-owned iPhone. This will provide unlimited domestic hotspot data using AT&T's cellular network.

Computer lab availability

All CTS-managed computer labs are open for the fall 2020 semester. The number of available computers in each lab has been reduced to allow for appropriate physical distancing. Physical distancing signage will also be posted in each computer lab.

Printing services modifications

In addition to the printers in each computer lab, a public printer has been placed in Duquesne Union lounge. You can wirelessly print to this printer using Web Print.

Sanitization of computer labs

CTS will perform routine sanitization of computer labs and their equipment, including mice and keyboards, throughout the fall semester. Hand sanitizer dispensers will also be located in each computer lab.
