Computer Hardware Support

Graphic: Alert icon

Apple recently announced the release of a new line of Mac devices featuring their M1 microchip technology. At this time, Computing and Technology Services (CTS) will have limited to no support for core University software and services on Mac devices with the M1 microchip. Therefore, CTS does not recommend purchasing a Mac device with the new M1 microchip.

CTS is working with the University's software vendors and testing our campus technologies on Mac devices with the M1 microchip. As support for Mac devices with the M1 microchip becomes available, we will update this webpage.

Overview

Duquesne uses Dell and Apple computers to meet the University's computing needs. Computing and Technology Services (CTS) offers full warranty support for both manufacturers.

All University-managed computers have an end of life expiration. CTS provides:

  • Full support to equipment 5 years and newer
  • Best-effort support for equipment 5-8 years old. Replacements should be considered for these devices.
  • If the equipment is older than 8 years, it will not be supported and should be recycled.

Supported University hardware should always be purchased through the Duquesne University Computer Store.
