Information Technology Graduation Checklist

Congratulations, Seniors!

As you prepare for graduation and your next endeavor, please take a few moments and review some important technology notes regarding your MultiPass and email accounts.

Access to Your Multipass and Email Accounts

You will retain access to your MultiPass and email accounts for one year after graduating from Duquesne University. For instance, if you graduate in May 2019, you will retain access to your Multipass and email accounts until May 2020. After one year has passed since your graduation date, your MultiPass and email accounts will be removed from our systems and will no longer be accessible. Students will be notified that their account is being removed at least one month prior to the account removal date.

Email Forwarding and Automatic Replies

Computing and Technology Services (CTS) recommends setting a forward and automatic reply on your Duquesne University email account immediately after you graduate. An automatic reply can direct anyone emailing your Duquesne email account to your personal email address. Additionally, a forward will ensure that any messages sent to your Duquesne email account after graduation are delivered to your personal email account. Please note: any forwards and automatic replies configured on your Duquesne University email account will no longer function after your account has been removed from our systems.

Transfer Files Stored in OneDrive or Box

If you have files stored on your Duquesne University OneDrive or Box accounts, transfer the files to a personal storage account prior to your account being removed. If you do not have a personal cloud storage account, below are some recommendations from CTS:

  • Google Drive: Visit https://www.google.com/drive/ and click "Go to Google Drive." After you are directed to the sign in page, click "More Options" and choose "Create Account." Once your account is set up, you can download your files from your Duquesne University OneDrive account to your computer, and then upload them to your Google Drive account. Google Drive currently offers 15 GB of storage for free and 100GB for $1.99/month.
  • Microsoft OneDrive: Visit https://onedrive.live.com/ and click "Sign Up for Free" to create a new account (be sure that the account is different from your Duquesne University email address). Once your account is set up, you can download your files from your Duquesne University OneDrive account to your computer, and then upload them to your personal OneDrive account. OneDrive currently offers 5 GB of storage for free and 50 GB for $1.99/month.
  • Box: Visit https://www.box.com/ and click "Sign Up." When choosing a plan, navigate to the Individual Plans tab to select either the "Individual (Free)" or "Personal Pro" ($10/month) option. When creating your account, be sure that the account is different from your Duquesne University email address. Once your account is set up, you can download your files from your Duquesne University OneDrive account to your computer, and then upload them to your personal Box account.

Access to Duquesne University Licensed Software

Access to Duquesne University software you obtained as a student, such as Microsoft Office, will expire once your MultiPass and email accounts are removed from the system. If you would like to purchase Microsoft Office, please visit https://products.office.com/en-us/home.

Personal Accounts Linked With Your Duquesne University Email

Personal accounts, such as social media or banking, may have your Duquesne University email listed as a primary or recovery email. If you have any accounts linked with your Duquesne University email address, please be sure to update the email address to your personal email address as soon as you graduate. For steps on how to update your email address, please visit the respective account's help page.

Unlink Phone Contacts from Duquesne University Email

If you added your Duquesne email account to your mobile device, your phone contacts may have become linked to this account. Make sure to create a backup of your contacts and/or connect them to a personal email account prior to your Duquesne University email account being removed.

Computer Store Buyback Program

Before you graduate from Duquesne University, be sure to visit the Computer Store to trade in your old computer to use towards the purchase of a new one! For more information regarding the Buyback program, feel free to visit duq.edu/about/campus/computer-store/recycling/buyback.

Transcripts and Student Records

Students are still able to access student records after their MultiPass account is removed. Visit duq.edu/transcripts for information on how to order copies of your official transcripts. For other information, such as grades and class schedules, feel free to consult the Registrar's website at duq.edu/registrar.
