The Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law

About the Institute

Founded at Duquesne University in 2000, The Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law is an internationally acclaimed center for research, training and professional education in applied forensic science.

Through its global network of practitioner and scholar experts and its unique collaborations with the university's schools of Nursing, Law, and Natural and Environmental Sciences, among other academic institutions, the Institute pursues interdisciplinary research into a broad array of subjects affecting the practice of forensic science today. These same partnerships support the Institute's Annual Forensic Science and Law Symposium and its quarterly professional education seminar series, Forensic Fridays, in addition to periodic training workshops for targeted professional audiences.

We strive to:

  • Create and support multidisciplinary courses of degree and non-degree study
  • Educate students about the vast applications and reach of the forensic sciences in today's society
  • Educate students about the relationship between forensic science and law in our criminal justice institutions
  • Inform the local and national communities about the revolutionary impact of forensic sciences
  • Engender in all of our participants a multidisciplinary approach to applying science to the law in our collective search for the truth
