Prayer in the Holy Spirit
As the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, our religious family puts special emphasis on our consecration to the Holy Spirit (Bagamoyo 2.1)
Spiritans Praying in and with the Holy Spirit
O Jesus living in Mary, come and live in your servants, in the Spirit of your holiness,
in the fullness of your power, in the perfection of your ways,
in the communion of your mysteries.
Have dominion over every adverse power in the same Spirit
to the glory of God the Father. Amen.
Archconfraternity Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Holy Spirit, Lord of Light,
from Your clear celestial height,
Your pure beaming radiance give.
Come, O Father of the Poor,
come with treasures that endure,
come, O Light of all that live.
You of all Consolers best,
and the soul's delightsome Guest,
do refreshing Peace bestow.
You in toil are Comfort sweet,
pleasant coolness in the heat,
solace in the midst of woe.
Light immortal, Light Divine,
visit now this heart of mine,
and my inmost being fill.
If You take Your grace away,
nothing pure in us will stay,
all our good is turned to ill.
Heal our wounds, our strength renew,
on our dryness pour Your dew,
wash the stains of guilt away.
Bend the stubborn heart and will,
melt the frozen, warm the chill,
guide the steps that go astray.
On all those who evermore
You confess and You adore,
in Your Sevenfold Gifts descend.
Give them comfort when they die.
Give them Life with You on high,
give them joys that never end.
A Chaplet of the Holy Spirit
This chaplet to the Holy Spirit records some of the
important moments in the history of salvation. It is
divided into nine mysteries, one of which can be
used each day of the novena, and it encourages those
who pray this chaplet to use their Bible in order to
meditate more deeply on God's Word to us.
During the nine days following the Ascension of the Lord the first Christian community gathered in prayer awaiting the coming of the promised Holy Spirit. The Congregation of the Holy Spirit continues that tradition in Spiritan communities and works throughout the world.
The Center for Spiritan Studies offers nine moments of reflection and prayer in celebration of the Holy Spirit, author and guide of Spiritan life and mission. From the first gathering of Spiritans on Pentecost Sunday in 1703 around Claude Poullart des Places in Paris to this, our time, reliance on Divine Providence which devotion to the Holy Spirit represents, holds a cherished place in Spiritan tradition and history.
Each moment is prompted by quotations from the Spiritan Rule of Life and the most recent Spiritan General Chapter, Bagamoyo, 2012. These quotations are reflected on in prayer, Scripture and the writing of Venerable Francis Libermann.
Duquesne Novenas to the Holy Spirit:
Novena Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come, SPIRIT OF WISDOM! Teach my heart to know how to appreciate and love celestial goods and prefer them to all the goods of the earth.
(Say the "Glory be" after each invocation.)
Come, SPIRIT OF UNDERSTANDING! Enlighten my mind to know and embrace all the mysteries and be worthy to obtain full knowledge of You, the Father and the Son.
Come, SPIRIT OF GOOD COUNSEL! Help me in all the matters of this unstable life, make me docile to Your inspiration and lead me always on the right road of the divine commandments.
Come, SPIRIT OF FORTITUDE! Fortify my heart in all trouble and adversity and give my soul the vigor necessary to resist all its enemies.
Come, SPIRIT OF KNOWLEDGE! Make me see the vanity of all the worn out goods of this world so that I do not use them except for Your greater glory and the salvation of my soul.
Come, SPIRIT OF PIETY! Come live in my heart and lead it to the true piety and holy love of God.
Come, SPIRIT OF THE FEAR OF GOD! Permeate my flesh with Your holy fear in such a way that I always feel the presence of God and avoid everything that might displease the eyes of His Divine Majesty.
Divine Holy Spirit, I offer You all the prayers of the most holy Virgin and the Apostles together in the Cenacle, and I unite my prayers to theirs, begging You to hurry to renew the face of the earth.
V. Send down Your Spirit and things will be created.
R. And You will renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray:
O God, You taught the hearts of the faithful with the light of the Holy Spirit. Grant us, through the same Spirit, knowledge and love of justice, and may we always enjoy His consolation. Amen.
