Driving for University Business

Driving Approvals

Anyone driving a vehicle for University business MUST be approved by the Office of Risk Management.

To apply for driving privileges, please complete the Application for Driving Privileges.
In addition to submitting an application, applicants must also pass a Motor Vehicle Records check and are required to complete an online training program before being approved to drive.

TAP 38 and TAP 38 Addendum (Departmental Policy and Procedures for Driver Safety and University Insured Vehicle Use) provide guidelines and expectations of drivers operating University Insured Vehicles.

Insurance

Duquesne University is insured by Travelers Auto Insurance. This insurance covers any damages or losses to University owned, leased or rented vehicles. Ceritified drivers should carry the auto insurance card, available for download in DORI, while driving University Insured Vehicles for University business. (Unless approved by the Office of Risk Management, Duquesne's auto insurance cannot be used for personal use.)

Accident Reporting

All drivers operating a University Insured Vehicle must report each and every accident, regardless of damage, to the Office of Risk Management. Do NOT file a claim on your own! The Office of Risk Management will file a claim for you.

Failure to report damage of a University Insured Vehicle may result in the driver or the driver's department to be financially responsible for repair costs.

1. Complete the Application for Driving Privileges to become a certified driver.

3. Use a University P-card to pay for the rental when possible.

This is called compulsory coverage and should be selected. Please contact the Office of Risk Management if you have questions about whether or not you need additional rental vehicle insurance.

Duquesne University currently has an Agreement in place with Enterprise Rental Agency which entitles University affiliates to 5% off the best rate available at time of rental when using our code, available in DORI.
