A New Era Ahead

On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Duquesne University Board Chair Diane Hupp announced that Dr. David Dausey, executive vice president and provost at Duquesne, was selected to be the University’s 14th President. His term will begin on July 1, 2026.

The University's full announcement details Dr. Dausey's remarkable contributions to Duquesne so far in his career.

A transformative academic leader and an internationally recognized epidemiologist, Dr. Dausey emerged as the top choice after a comprehensive national search that attracted dozens of highly qualified candidates. “Provost Dausey stood out among a very distinguished and accomplished group of applicants from around the country, all of whom admired both our storied mission and the great momentum Duquesne has right now,” said Hupp.

As provost, Dr. Dausey played a pivotal role in building the momentum that has defined Duquesne in recent years. He championed initiatives that expanded the University’s academic reach—launching new schools, departments, programs and institutes, including the Nasuti College of Osteopathic Medicine and a revitalized portfolio of engineering programs. His appointment as president promises to continue that trajectory, building on recent successes to chart a bold new chapter in Duquesne’s storied history.

Students talk about administration a lot, and I’ve only ever heard positive things about Dr. Dausey. So us already having a relationship with him as student government, him being the provost here already… we’re going to be ready to get right to work.

Shaping Our Future Together

Throughout his career in higher education, President-Elect Dausey has long championed collaborative decision-making and shared governance—principles that will be fundamental to his leadership as Duquesne’s next president. In his first remarks as president-elect, Dr. Dausey announced he’ll be hosting a listening tour to hear from the community before setting a strategic agenda.

In January 2026, Dr. Dausey began hosting both in-person and Zoom listening sessions with groups from across the community to hear your thoughts and ideas on the future of the University. These sessions will continue through July 1, 2026, when he officially takes office as president. More information, including details on how to sign up for an open session, will be shared in the coming weeks via email and through this webpage.

Alongside those listening sessions, Dr. Dausey invites you to share your thoughts through a confidential Qualtrics survey. All feedback is welcome, but Dr. Dausey is particularly interested in your perspectives on these five initial questions:
  1. What opportunities would you like Duquesne to pursue as we carry forward our Catholic Spiritan mission and chart the University's next chapter?
  2. What continued actions should the University champion to expand access to higher education and ensure Duquesne is a place where every student can thrive?
  3. What initiatives or ideas can be leveraged to strengthen a sense of belonging and shared purpose across the University community?
  4. How can Duquesne ensure its students are prepared to excel in a rapidly changing, tech-driven world?
  5. How can Duquesne continue to grow as a flagship of community engagement to advance both the University and the City of Pittsburgh?

"The success of Duquesne relies on more than its president.

It relies on all of us—on our shared effort, our shared governance, and our shared belief that students are the polestar of everything we do." —David Dausey
