Besides being a mother and son pair who both work at Hogan Dining Center, Shonetta and Milik also feel like they have a good work family at Duquesne. "Being here eight hours a day you spend a lot of time with your coworkers. You can look at your coworkers and know that they're having a bad day and try to comfort them. You know a lot about them and what's going on with their families," said Shonetta. She has worked at Duquesne for over twelve years. Milik joined her this past year after graduating from Carrick High School and transferring from Hello Bistro in the South Side, which is also owned by the Eat'n Park Hospitality Group, like Parkhurst Dining, which oversees the food service at Duquesne.

Though they don't work the same shift they enjoy a close relationship. In his role Milik works from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. as a floater whereas Shonetta works from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Delish, the Custom Kitchen station. As a floater Milik helps out wherever he is needed in Hogan, supporting his coworkers. "I wanted him to get experience at every station, because if someone calls off he can fill that shift." Shonetta said.

"I like (working with her) because I always have someone to go to. I feel comfortable talking to her about anything," Milik said of his mother.

All told Shonetta has three boys and two girls along with three granddaughters and two grandsons. "It's a squad," she says with a laugh.

Of Duquesne's newest first-year students she remarked on how healthy they are eating, more so than past classes. Shonetta says she makes a really good marinated and grilled tofu at Delish for those students who are looking to eat healthy and also eat less meat. Working in the back of the house now she has fewer opportunities to interact with them though. Previously she worked at the Deli, Options and the Incline. "The kids here are great."

They both value their family and that they are here in Pittsburgh. "We're a real close family and I want everybody to stay close. We have a lot of fun and I like to entertain," Shonetta said.

"All my friends love her too," Milik said with a genuine, big smile.
