American Heart Association Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support

Basic Life Support (BLS): Designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings. Initial certification and recertification are available. | Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS): Healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists and paramedics. Initial certification and recertification are available.

The Pharmacist and Patient-Centered Diabetes Care

An APhA Certificate ProgramThe Pharmacist and Patient-Centered Diabetes Care program is an intensive educational experience designed to equip pharmacists with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to provide effective, evidence-based diabetes care. The program includes comprehensive instruction in current diabetes concepts and standards of care and hands-on case studies and skills training focused on the situations most likely to be encountered in contemporary pharmacy practice. Participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement from the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) upon completion of the program.

Healthcare Leadership Certificate Program

Self-Paced–Register Anytime!Duquesne University School of Pharmacy and SJ Holdings Group, Inc. have developed the Healthcare Leadership certificate program, an educational experience designed to equip pharmacists-in all practice settings-with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to lead and thrive in today's healthcare climate via comprehensive instruction in current leadership topics including talent recruitment, people management, and workflow management, along with the opportunity to apply the skills learned to complex leadership scenarios. Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery Program

An APhA Certificate ProgramThe Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery program is an innovative and interactive training program that teaches pharmacists the skills necessary to become a primary source for vaccine information and administration. The program teaches the basics of immunology and focuses on practice implementation and legal/regulatory issues. The goals of the program are to provide comprehensive immunization education and training as well as provide pharmacists with the skills, knowledge and resources necessary to establish and promote a successful immunization service.

Delivering Medication Therapy Management

An APhA Certificate ProgramDelivering Medication Therapy Management (MTM) is an innovative and interactive training program that explores the pharmacist's role in providing MTM services to patients. This activity teaches pharmacists the essential skills necessary to become a successful MTM practitioner. The certificate-training program will enhance pharmacists' clinical expertise in evaluating complicated medication regimens, identifying medication-related problems, and making recommendations to patients, caregivers, and health care professionals.

Community-Based Pharmacogenomics

The Test2LearnTM Community-based Pharmacogenomics Certificate Program teaches the principles of pharmacogenomics as well as its practical implications in a variety of disease states. The program trains pharmacists to decipher and translate genetic tests, make appropriate recommendations for the patient, and counsel and collaborate with providers to help optimize patient medication regimens. Program participants have the opportunity to use an anonymous genomic data set, or their own personal data, for the live session. Interested in using your personal genetic data? Community Pharmacy-Based Point-Of-Care Testing

This is a wonderful opportunity for those pharmacists interested in point of care testing and physical assessment skills. This course provides community pharmacists and members of academia, industry and government with the skills necessary to develop and implement a collaborative testing program for influenza, Group A streptococcus, HIV and Hepatitis C. There is a recognized need for community pharmacists to collaboratively improve patient access to care through the use of point-of-care tests. Succesful completion of the course's 20 hours of accredited continuing education (16 hours of home study and 4 hours of live training) leads to a certificate of achievement. The program covers information on the targeted disease state, the physical assessment of a patient presenting to a community pharmacist, point-of-care tests and how to establish a point-of-care testing service.

Substance Use Disorder I: Identification & Referral

*This is a two-part certificate program. You must complete Part I (advance online study) prior to attending Part II (live programming).* The Substance Use Disorder Certificate Program is an innovative program designed to assist healthcare practitioners in identifying substance use issues, conducting an assessment, and making referrals. The program is comprised of online home study modules and a live programming session. The online home study module and a live programming session total 17 credit hours of educational content. Participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement upon successful completion of the program. Completion includes Part I and Part II as well as the assessments for each part of the program. This program may be applied toward two hours of continuing education on opioids, pain management and addiction.

Substance Use Disorder II: Treatment and Alternative Approaches to Pain Management

*This is a two-part certificate program. You must complete Part I (advance online study) prior to attending Part II (live programming).* The Substance Use Disorder Certificate Program: Treatment & Alternative Approaches to Pain Management is the second in a series of certificate programs designed to assist health care practitioners in the management of substance use disorders. Program participants will gain an appreciation of the appropriate use of opioids, equianalgesic dosing and opioid tapering strategies, non-opioid and non-pharmacologic approaches to pain management, naloxone rescue administration, emergency department response to overdose scenarios, behavioral and pharmacological approaches to substance use disorders including the induction and use of buprenorphine and methadone, and harm reduction strategies. The program is comprised of online home study modules and live programming components.* The online home study modules and the live programming session total 19 credit hours of ACPE-approved continuing education content. Participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement upon successful completion of the program. This program may be applied toward two hours of continuing education on opioids, pain management and addiction.

Tobacco Treatment Specialist

A Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialists (TTS) is a professional who possesses the skills, knowledge, and training to provide effective, evidence-based interventions for tobacco dependence across a range of intensities and in a variety of settings including but not limited to hospitals, community health centers, HMOs, medical and dental practices, educational settings, social service agencies, tobacco treatment centers, telephone quitlines, and mental health centers. The TTS may engage not only in providing treatment but also in educating others (professionals and patients) about tobacco dependence treatments. This training program is nationally accredited by the Council for Tobacco Treatment Training Programs (CTTP). It is an intensive course taught through self-paced online modules focusing on the skills needed to effectively treat tobacco dependence, culminating in a one-day live interactive Zoom session. Through the expertise of the course faculty, participants will be guided in using the skills of motivational interviewing, medication management, and other evidence-based strategies to support effective tobacco treatment. *Group of 10 or more interested in TTS training? Pharmacy-Based Travel Health Services Advanced Training Program

The Pharmacy-Based Travel Health Services program is an innovative and interactive advanced competency training (ACT) program that explores the pharmacist's role in providing travel health services to patients. This application-based activity is the first step for pharmacists interested in learning the essential skills necessary to successfully provide travel health services. To participate in this program, pharmacists must have completed the APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery Certificate-Training program and received a Certificate of Achievement or have previously completed an immunization training program and be authorized to provide immunizations in the state in which they practice.

Certificate Program Policy

Reservations for the program cannot be held until the registration fee is received. Cancellations received in writing (via email) at least seven days prior to the program will receive a refund minus a $25 cancellation fee if an access code to learning material was not processed. If the access code was processed, a refund minus a $150 cancellation fee will be provided. Please contact the program coordinator if you need to cancel your registration. Duquesne University reserves the right to cancel the program at any point in time. In that event, each participant will be notified via email and a full refund will be made.

Faculty reserve the right to remove a participant for distracting or inappropriate behavior. If a future offering is not available, the participant understands that a refund will not be available.
