Dr. Jim Purdy's Journal Club

  • 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM
  • Virtual

We continue our CETR Journal Club in January with Dr. Jim Purdy, Associate Professor of English/Writing Studies and University Writing Center Director. He will discuss the following:

Writing center scholars have increasingly called for writing centers to move outside their institutional boundaries and become actors in their communities to engage in outreach, activism, and community building (Adkins, Carter, & Dunbar-Odom, 2010-2011; Caswell, Grutsch McKinney, & Jackson, 2016; Murphy, 2006). In this Journal Club session, Dr. James P. Purdy, University Writing Center Director, will explain an initiative to accomplish these goals. Building on his presentation to the National Conference on Peer Tutoring in Writing, he will discuss an initiative to establish a Community Writing Center that works with students and adults in the Hill District. Dr. Purdy welcomes feedback, suggestions, and questions surrounding this community-engaged initiative.
