Bio

Elizabeth Skrovanek, PhD, joined Duquesne School of Nursing in August 2020. She earned her both her BSN and PhD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. Dr. Skrovanek's scholarship focuses on the reproductive decision-making in individuals with genetic susceptibility.

Dr. Skrovanek is very interested in understanding and addressing the risk perceptions, psychosocial impacts and ethical implications of those with abnormal genetic test results. Her PhD dissertation, "Emotional States Associated with Reproductive Decision-Making in Women who are BRCA Positive" strives to better understand the specific emotions that are predominant in women with a BRCA gene mutation who are making family planning decisions. She has presented at several international, national and local conferences on reproductive decision-making, ethics and personal cancer risk.

Dr. Skrovanek is a member of the International Society of Nurses in Genetics, Association of Women's Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nursing and serves on the board of Sigma Theta Tau, Eta Chapter. Additionally, as a Nurse Scholar with the Jonas Philanthropies, she co-chaired a leadership conference entitled, "Nursing Leadership- What's Your Superpower?"
