Josephine Kost is an active performer and flute instructor based in Pittsburgh, PA. She is principal flute of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with the Johnstown, Akron, Westmoreland, Altoona, and Firelands Symphonies, Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Camerata, Pittsburgh Opera, the W.D. Packard Concert Band, the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh, and the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh. Josie has been featured as a soloist with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, Duquesne University Symphony Orchestra, Wheaton College Symphony Orchestra, and the Firelands Symphony Orchestra.
Josie studied with Dr. Anita Miller-Rieder at the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music, in Wheaton, IL, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music Degree. She went on to earn a Master of Music degree and an Artist Diploma from Duquesne University, studying with former Pittsburgh Symphony flutists Damian Bursill-Hall.
Josie loves teaching students of all ages. She currently serves as an adjunct professor of flute at Mercyhurst University and Duquesne University. Additionally, she is a certified Suzuki flute and piano teacher and a licensed Kindermusik instructor, teaching weekly private lessons and Kindermusik classes.
