Bio

Dr. Marie Cippel received her bachelor's degree and master's degree in Nursing Education from the School of Nursing at Duquesne University. Dr. Cippel earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Carlow University. She was a professional staff nurse at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Emergency Department. She is a member of the Emergency Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau. Her interests focus on pediatrics, emergency medicine, and critical care. In addition to Dr. Cippel 's passion for pediatric nursing, she embraces an innate desire for teaching and helping to create a positive atmosphere where students are encouraged to focus on the core values of nursing. She employs alternative teaching styles within the classroom while engaging students' critical thinking. It was an honor for Dr. Cippel to receive the Apple Polishing Award in 2016. This award is presented to a Duquesne University professor by Greek Life for excellence in teaching and service. Additionally, she achieved the honor of the 2016 BAYADA Awards for Technological Innovation and Health Care Education and Practice. Dr. Cippel collaborated with colleagues from several universities to publish an article in the Journal of Professional Nursing entitled, Strengthening Cultural Competence in Prenatal Care with a Virtual Community: Building Capacity Through Collaboration. Additionally, she and her colleagues had an article published in Teaching and Learning in Nursing entitled, An Advanced Medication Administration Experience to Promote Students' Knowledge Acquisition in the Skill of Administering Medications. Mrs. Cippel has presented posters relating to her published articles at conferences throughout the country and on an international level.
