Biography

Rachel Skilone is an Adjunct Professor of Music Education at Duquesne University and a 5th and 6th grade band director in the Bethel Park School District. She earned her Master of Music in Music Education and Bachelor of Science in Music Education degrees from Duquesne University. While earning her master's degree, Rachel presented her project paper "What? We Get A Grade In Band?! Measurement and Evaluation within a Middle School Group Lesson Setting" in April 2013 at the Thompson Symposium for Master's Degree Students in State College, PA. She presented the same research at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association's state conference in Hershey, PA as well as two professional development workshops at Carnegie Mellon University and Grove City University during the 2014–2015 school year. A proud graduate of Duquesne University, she has continued to maintain a relationship with the university by serving as a cooperating teacher for student teachers.

Along with teaching 5th and 6th grade concert band and jazz band classes in Bethel Park, Rachel also teaches private clarinet lessons, organizes and teaches at summer band camps for 5th through 8th grade students in Bethel Park, and has served as a woodwind director for both the Bethel Park and Baldwin-Whitehall marching bands. Rachel currently serves as the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association's Fest Coordinator for District 1, assisting hosts in organizing elementary festivals. 

Rachel has been the recipient of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association's Citation of Excellence Award (Spring 2017) and the Bethel Park Extra Mile Award (Spring 2008). Outside of music education, she enjoys quality time with her husband and two sons.
