Congratulations Dr. Emtinan Alqurashi!

Dr. Emtinan AlqurashiCongratulations to School of Education's alumna Dr. Emtinan Alqurashi! Just this year the Ed.D. Instructional Technology & Leadership (now renamed as Ed.D. Educational Technology) 2017 graduate was presented with the Division of Distance Learning Journal Article Award from the Association for Educational Communications & Technology (AECT) for her scholarship.

This AECT award is a special honor as AECT has been in existence since 1923 providing leadership in the field through scholarship and best practices in instructional technology across the globe. The award recognizes an outstanding article describing best practices in distance education or the research on an important aspect of distance education.

Dr. Alqurashi's article stemmed from her dissertation with her School of Education advisor, Dr. David Carbonara. The article received 1st place for Best Journal Article in the quantitative research category. Her research article entitled "Predicting student satisfaction and perceived learning within online learning environments" aimed to explore the learning experience of online students in higher education.

Currently, Dr. Alqurashi is the Assistant Director of Educational Technology at Temple University's Center for the Advancement of Teaching. Dr. Alqurashi shares how Duquesne helped her reach her goals:

The Ed.D. in Instructional Technology and Leadership program helped me apply research-based strategies and best practices for developing effective instruction. It also helped me gain the skills and knowledge that I needed in instructional design, instructional technology, and leadership and understand how they can be applied to the real world. Not only that but with the help of Dr. Carbonara, I was able to research what I am interested in and tailor it to my career goals, which led to a number of conference presentations and journal publications. As an Assistant Director of Educational Technology, I now lead a number of programming at Temple University's Center for the Advancement of Teaching that focuses on online teaching and learning and the integration of technology to enhance student learning.
