Melissa Boston (Ed.D., Mathematics Education, University of Pittsburgh, 2006) is a Professor of Mathematics Education at Duquesne University, where she teaches mathematics methods courses for elementary, middle school, and high school teaching candidates. Prior to this, Melissa taught middle school and high school mathematics. In her research, Melissa examines mathematics teaching and learning through classroom observations and collections of students' work, using the Instructional Quality Assessment (IQA) in Mathematics Toolkit, for which she is lead developer. Melissa is lead author of Making Sense of Mathematics for Teaching to Inform Instructional Quality (Solution Tree) and Taking Action: Implementing Effective Mathematics Teaching Practice Grades 9-12 (NCTM). She has served as Associate Editor of Mathematics Teacher Educator (2012-2015), as Series Editor for NCTM's 2017-2018 Annual Perspectives in Mathematics Education, on NCTM's Principles to Actions Toolkit development team, on NCTM's Student Explorations in Mathematics committee, and on research advisory boards. Melissa is currently serving on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Board of Directors.

Rachel Ayieko (Ph.D., Curriculum, Instruction, and Teacher Education, Michigan State University, 2014) is an associate professor and the Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship Program Director. She has been teaching mathematics methods and content to PK-12 pre-service teachers since 2014. A former high school mathematics teacher (1993-2001), Dr. Ayieko focuses her teacher education classes around "productive struggle" to promote problem-solving. Her research explores the opportunities to learn mathematics, mathematics teacher education, teacher quality, and equitable practices using comparative large scale data analysis and classroom observation schemes.

Xia Chao (Ph.D., Second Language Acquisition and Teaching, University of Alabama, 2013) teaches courses in culturally and linguistically diverse learners, second language literacy, TESOL methods, and issues related to English language learners education. Her research focuses on the complex relationship between language, literacy, pedagogy, identity, and power in the settings of home, community, and school. Her work has been published in several journals including Journal of Literacy Research, Anthropology and Education Quarterly, Linguistics and Education, Journal of Early Childhood Literacy, Critical Inquiry in Language Studies, Urban Education, etc. Dr. Chao’s research contributions have been recognized through awards, including the 2015 J. Michael Parker Award of the Literacy Research Association and the 2016 Outstanding Early Career Scholar Award of the American Educational Research Association’s Adult Literacy and Adult Education SIG.

Bridget Green (Ed.D., Special Education with a foundation in neuroscience, George Washington University, 2013) is an assistant professor of special education in the Department of Counseling, Psychology, & Special Education and the advisor for Kappa Delta Epsilon.  Her research focuses on understanding the needs of students who have disabilities transitioning into college and employment, transition assessment, and developing best practices to ensure students with and without disabilities have access to meaningful career-based assessments in the general education classroom.  Other interests include disability rights, accessibility for all, and self-advocacy for the disability community.

Ann Huang (Ph.D., Applied Behavioral Analysis, Tennessee Technological University, 2007) research interests are mainly focused on assessments, education and interventions for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Learning Disabilities, especially transition-aged adolescents with High-Functioning Autism/Asperger syndrome and Reading Disability. In addition to teaching both undergraduate- and graduate-level courses as well as chairing doctoral students’ dissertations, Dr. Huang also publishes in top-tier journals that have high impact factors and presents at both international and national professional conferences. Dr. Huang was also awarded more than 10 grants to support her research projects/activities. She is also serving as associate editors for two top-tier journals in the world.

Karen Levitt (Ed.D., Science Education with Administration and Policy Studies, University of Pittsburgh, 1996) a former classroom teacher, is an associate professor and the program director of the Middle Level and Secondary Education programs in the Department of Instruction & Leadership in Education. Dr. Levitt primarily teaches science methods courses in the PreK4 and Middle Level programs, although she also teaches a variety of other courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels including Intro to the Teaching Profession. Her academic interest is in observing how teachers change their practices and their beliefs, especially when teaching science. Her goal through all of her courses is to for teachers to develop a curiosity and passion for education that they will, in turn, pass along to their students. Dr. Levitt has developed a national reputation for a course titled, Teaching Science with Toys, for which she was awarded the Duquesne University Creative Teaching Award. Dr. Levitt has consulted with area school districts on issues of strategic planning, student assessment, and curriculum development. Dr. Levitt has made scholarly and clinical presentations at state, national, and international conferences and has had several articles published in professional journals. Dr. Levitt earned her doctorate and master’s degree in education at the University of Pittsburgh and her undergraduate degree in elementary education at Miami University (Oxford, OH).

Rick McCown (Ph.D., Educational Psychology, Indiana University, 1980) is a professor of education, the Program Director of the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, and the Pierre Schouver, C.S.Sp. Endowed Chair in Mission. He has served as Department Chair and as Interim Dean of the School of Education. He teaches educational psychology course to undergraduates who aspire to teach and improvement inquiry to doctoral students. His research efforts focus on community-engaged educational improvement as well as the educational applications of restorative and disruptive justice.

Christopher Meidl, Ph.D., is an associate professor with a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction in Early Childhood Education from The Pennsylvania State University. His k-12 teaching experience includes high school English at Marion Abramson High School in New Orleans, La. and pre-kindergarten/kindergarten in Westwego, La. and La Joya, Tx. The intent behind much of his research and scholarly work has been to advance understanding of pedagogy and curricula. The four areas his research are character education, classroom management, White teachers and diverse communities, and Black males in early childhood education. Two recent publications include Black Men and Early Childhood Education in Urban Education (2018) and Establishing Asset Thinking with Preservice Teachers: Community-Engaged Learning with Young Children from Public Housing in the book Service-Learning Initiatives in Teacher Education Programs (2018).

Amy Olson (Ph.D., Educational Psychology, University of Arizona, 2014) is the Associate Dean for Teacher Education and an associate professor of Educational Psychology and Classroom Assessment in the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership at Duquesne University. Her research is primarily focused on the ways in which student, teacher, and principal self-beliefs and beliefs about academic content influence instruction and assessment decisions. Although much of her work has taken place in mathematics classrooms, she is also interested in issues of equity more broadly. Her teaching focuses on supporting future teachers to create engaging learning environments in which learning is made visible to both students and teachers.

Darius Prier (Ph.D., Educational Leadership, Miami University, Oxford, 2009) is an associate professor for the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership in the School of Education. In addition, he serves as the current Chair for the School of Education Faculty Council. Prier uses prophetic criticism as an intellectual and methodological practice for interrogating transdisciplinary approaches to educational leadership within their moral, political, and social justice contexts. Dr. Prier uses popular culture (e.g. media, film, news, music, memoir, sports, etc.) as a cultural site by which the cultural production, reading, and evaluation of innovative practices in educational leadership might take shape. For educational leaders, prophetic criticism challenges traditional Western-based discourses, works across and between multiple theories/disciplines/cultural sites, and advocates for cross coalition building across and between diverse communities.

Sandra Quiñones (Ph.D., Teaching, Curriculum & Change, University of Rochester, 2012), is an associate professor in the Department of Instruction & Leadership in Education at Duquesne University. Her qualitative scholarship focuses on Latina/o education and family-community engagement issues, with an emphasis on bicultural-bilingual elementary teachers’ experiences and perspectives of being well educated. She specializes in the application of Chicana/Latina feminist concept of trenzas/braids as a metaphorical-analytical tool in life history and narrative inquiry approaches. A former elementary teacher in Rochester, New York, and San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dr. Quiñones teaches undergraduate and graduate literacy education courses. Since joining Duquesne University in July of 2013, she has worked collaboratively on a mixed methods research study of a supplemental literacy program, a qualitative single case study of an exemplary community school in Eastern Pennsylvania, and a community-engaged mixed methods study of a mindfulness-based professional development program being implemented at multiple educational institutions.
