"My parents are nurses, so I always knew that I wanted to be in healthcare. I started at Duquesne as a pre-med biochemistry major, but quickly realized that the clinical side was not for me. I chose Health Management systems because it combined my interests in healthcare, leadership, business and IT. I knew that by pursuing a degree in HMS, I could still make an impact on healthcare on a macro level from the administrative policy side instead of at an individual level on the clinical side. In the HMS program, I discovered my passion for Quality Improvement in health care. In fact, it was in my Quality Improvement class that I was introduced to the company I currently work for, the National Committee for Quality Assurance or NCQA. In class, I learned that their mission was ‘to improve the quality of healthcare'. I began to dream about what it would be like to work for a nationally recognized organization that worked daily to transform health care delivery. Now here I am, working every day in pursuit of that mission. I am so grateful for the opportunities that my education as a student in HMS at Duquesne gave me."
