I always knew I wanted a career in healthcare and the Health Management Systems (HMS) program was perfect for me because it combines clinical studies, healthcare business management, and information technology.

I graduated in May 2013 with my BS in HMS with a minor in general business and italian. During my time at Duquesne, I had the opportunity to study abroad. Seeing first hand poorly operated hospitals in another country further validated my desire to pursue a career in health management.

I completed my internship at UPMC Passavant Hospital working in Medical Staff Services. Upon completing my degree I continued to work there part-time while attending the University of Pittsburgh, where I graduated in April 2015 with my Master in Health Administration. While at Pitt, I completed a residency at UPMC CancerCenter, where I completed projects for the various radiation oncology sites.

I continue to work at UPMC Passavant full time where I assist with the appointment and reappointment of physicians and allied health professionals. I am also involved in graduate medical education, getting fellow and residents on board at the hospital. The internships were the most valuable as it gave me hands on experience. The curriculum at Duquesne helped me tremendously succeed at my internships and as I pursued my masters degree.

I am very grateful for the HMS program, especially Professor Cousino for introducing me to my internship where I currently work. Her passion and expertise in the field is inspiring. I am confident that the knowledge that I have gained at Duquesne will offer me a wide range of opportunities in my career.
