Law Alumni Invited to Judge 1-L Appellate Oral Arguments

The Legal Research and Writing Program invites law alumni to serve as judges for the first-year students' appellate oral arguments on Friday, April 8 (late afternoon); Saturday, April 9 (morning and afternoon); and Sunday, April 10 (afternoon). We are hopeful that the arguments will be held in-person at the School of Law, but if necessary the arguments will be held via Zoom. Alumni judges are critical to the success of this experience. Each argument will involve two students and will last approximately one hour. Four "judges," usually three practicing attorneys and one Legal Research & Writing Program professor, will preside over each argument. Volunteers will judge six students for a three-hour session. Judges will be provided with the students' briefs and supporting materials in advance, in the form of PDF files. To volunteer fill out the form below. We will do our best to accommodate all requests, but please note that in previous years, the response for alumni was so great that we were, regrettably, unable to schedule everyone who volunteered. A final schedule will be ready in late February or early March.

Questions may be directed to lrwadmin@duq.edu or (412) 396-1120.
