We are pleased to announce the promotion of Alex Garvey, PhD to Senior Vice President of Mission for Bon Secours Saint Francis Health System in Greenville, SC, effective March 21, 2016. We would like to thank the Bon Secours Maryview's physicians and staff for creating a mentoring environment that prepared Alex for this significant career advancement.

Alex joined Bon Secours in December, 2010 and has served as the Vice President of Mission and Ethics for Bon Secours Hampton Roads as well as the Mission leader for Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center, Harbour View, Maryview Nursing Care Center, and Province Place of Maryview for the past five years. He earned his Master of Arts degree in Practical Theology from Barry University and his Doctoral degree in Ethics from Duquesne University.

Alex led the clinical ethics efforts for Bon Secours Hampton Roads and has provided leadership and guidance for ethical issues through education and training. He organized a number of Ethics lectures in partnership with Old Dominion University and the Eastern Virginia Medical School. In addition, Alex has offered his guidance and leadership for the Bon Secours Hampton Roads Spiritual Care team and CPE program. Alex led a number of initiatives and community outreach programs, including a monthly food drive and clothes closet, implemented a nurse navigator position and Nurse Practitioner for mental health at the Bon Secours Maryview Foundation Clinic. He started the Project Search program for children affected by Autism and a sustainable water program. For the past two years, with Alex's leadership, the United Way Campaign for Bon Secours Hampton Roads has achieved amazing results.

Alex served on the Maryview Foundation Board, the Harbour View Ambulatory Surgical Pavilion Board and for the past several years, has served as the President of the Oasis Board of Directors in Portsmouth, Virginia.

In light of Alex's departure from Hampton Roads, Pam Phillips will serve as mission leader for Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center as we begin our search for a Vice President of Mission. Alex will assist with the transition once a new mission leader is identified and will continue to remain available for Ethic consults in the interim.

Please join us in congratulating Alex in his new role and wishing him and his family every joy and happiness. May God continue to bless each of them beyond anything they ever imagined possible.
