International Applicants

Ideally, applicants for admission to the program in Computational Mathematics and Statistics leading to a Master of Science degree will have completed a bachelor's degree in mathematics, computer science or statistics with at least a 3.0 grade point average. For unconditional admission, an applicant must have completed two semesters of calculus, one semester of a programming language similar to Java, and one semester of calculus-based probability and/or statistics. Applicants who do not meet all these requirements but have a strong academic and/or work background in one of the three disciplines will also be considered on a case-by-case basis.

For all applicants, there is no fee for the initial on-line application.  However, you may need to pay a fee to a third party in order to submit supporting materials.

For international students, materials required for review include:

  1. Official transcripts of all undergraduate work and any previous graduate work.
  2. Official scores from the general exam of the GRE. Subject area examinations are not required.
  3. Three letters of recommendation, at least one of which should be from an academic source. (Print and complete the appropriate portion of this Recommendation Form (pdf))
  4. A brief (not to exceed 500 words) statement of purpose in seeking the M.S. degree in Computational Mathematics and Statistics.
  5. For students for whom English is not a primary language and who : An official score report indicating satisfactory performance on TOEFL.

Application Deadlines

Applications for admission as a degree candidate with financial aid should be submitted no later than March 1 for the academic year beginning in the following September. Degree candidates applying for admission without financial aid as well as non-degree applicants may apply up to two months prior to the beginning of the term in which the student desires to begin graduate work. For the fall semester such applications are due July 1, and for the spring semester they are due November 1.
