Core Courses

All Data Science Majors take the core courses in the list below. A grade of C or better must be achieved in all MATH, COSC, and DTSC core courses.

    • Mathematics Sequence (18 credits):
      • MATH 115: Calculus I (4 cr)
      • MATH 116: Calculus II (4 cr)
      • MATH 215: Calculus III (4 cr)
      • MATH 135: Discrete Mathematics (3 cr)
      • MATH 310: Linear Algebra (3 cr)
    • Statistics Core (12 credits)
      • MATH 301: Probability and Statistics I (3 cr)
      • MATH 302: Probability and Statistics II (3 cr)
      • MATH 325W: Applied Statistics with Regression (3 cr)
      • MATH 445: Predictive Modeling and Classification (3 cr)
    • Computer Science Core (15 credits)
      • COSC 170: Scientific Programming: Python (3 cr)
      • COSC 216: Python with Data Structures (3 cr)
      • COSC 300: Advanced Data Structures (3 cr)
      • COSC 401: Data Base Management Systems (3 cr)
      • COSC 423: Machine Learning (3 cr)
    • Data Science Core: (12 credits)

Electives
    • Technical and Applied Electives: (9 credits, with at least 3 credits of ‘Technical Electives' and at least 3 credits of ‘Applied Electives')
      • Technical Electives include any COSC or MATH course at the 300 level or above
      • Applied Electives include any BIOL, CHEM, PHYS, BMED, ECON, FINC, ISYS, or MKTG course at the 300 level or above.
