The Media department offers four undergraduate majors: Digital Media, Multiplatform Journalism, Sports Information and Media, and Strategic Public Relations and Advertising. Digital Media has concentrations in Multimedia as well as Interactive Design and Media. Strategic Public Relations and Advertising has concentrations in Public Relations and Advertising. Media also offers a Master of Fine Arts degree (M.F.A.) in Media Arts and Technology as well as an Accelerated path to the M.F.A. for Media undergraduate students.
Our Department empowers students to be effective, ethical, and thoughtful civic communicators, storytellers, and designers who are strategic in their thinking and skilled in creating and using a wide variety of media and platforms. Through our majors, students have opportunity to explore media from a communicative, technological, social-cultural, and creative-aesthetic perspective.
Our innovative portfolio-oriented curriculum offers hands-on courses taught by professors who are active in their respective fields and engaged with industry. Students venture into the professional world with tangible proof of their accomplishments, skills and potential, not just a transcript.

Our active internship program helps students obtain internship positions in media design and video production, social media, public relations and advertising, visual and interface design and user experience (UX) design. Regionally, interns have worked at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh Magazine, Elias/Savion Advertising, Brunner, American Eagle Outfitters, Pittsburgh Penguins, Steelers, Pirates, and Riverhounds as well as all four network affiliate broadcast stations. Students have also completed internships with national and international organizations.
Duquesne Media Digital Media Arts-Multimedia alumni are videographers, photographers and digital storytellers throughout the country.
Duquesne Media Digital Media: Interactive Design and Media alumni have careers in areas such as User Interface (UI) Design, User Experience (UX) Design, Digital Media, Web and Mobile design and development, Interaction Design (IxD), Product Usability and Evaluation.
Duquesne Media Multiplatform Journalism alumni work as reporters and editors at leading local news organizations, including National Public Radio.
Duquesne Media Sports Information and Media alumni work for a variety of professional and amateur sports teams and leagues, as well as in multiplatform sports journalism.
Duquesne Media Strategic Public Relations and Advertising alumni oversee media strategy and production for the Pittsburgh Penguins, UPMC health care, the National Football League Players Association and Edelman Worldwide.
Our graduates find careers in journalism, design, photography, video and sound production, interaction design, web design and development, user experience (UX), public relations and advertising, and digital media strategy and production. They are employed with organizations such as Brunner, UPMC Healthcare, the National Football League Players Association, American Eagle Outfitters, PNC Bank, BNY-Mellon, Dick's Sporting Goods, the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Pirates, and several universities. An increasing number of Media graduates become entrepreneurs.
A number of undergraduate students who want to continue their education have enrolled in our Accelerated path to a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) degree.
The Media department acts in concert with the mission of Duquesne University to nurture the individual talents of our students; harness their innate creativity; inspire their passion for innovation; foster their analytical and critical thinking; and encourage their ethical and professional leadership.
