Certificate in Media Arts and Technology

The 18-credit (six-course) certificate in Media Arts and Technology is for professionals who want to keep current in the media arts, design, and technology fields. Students build a focused program of study in Creative and Strategic Media, Interactive Design, or Photography and Film. 

Students concentrating in Creative and Strategic Media must take:

  • DMA 501 Introduction to Media Design
  • MDIA 541 Media Writing
  • MDIA 517 Critical Studies in Media OR
    MDIA 568 Media Management and Entrepreneurship
  • One of the following courses:
    • MDIA 565 Media Law & Intellectual Property OR
      ADPR 567 Media Research Methods OR
      MDIA 582 Media Management Ethics
  • Two additional Media graduate courses selected after consultation with the graduate director.

Students concentrating in Interactive Design must take:

  • DMA 564 Human-Computer Interaction
  • DMA 545 Interactive Design Studio I
  • DMA 572 Development Studio I
  • DMA 574 Interactive Design Studio II
  • DMA 575 Development Studio II
  • One additional Media graduate courses selected after consultation with the Graduate Director.

Students concentrating in Photography and film must take:

  • DMA 501 Introduction to Media Design
  • DMA 522 Kinetic Design Techniques
  • DMA 583 Photography Studio
  • Three additional Media graduate courses selected after consultation with the graduate director.

Transferring to the Master's Degree:
Courses may be transferred to the MFA program provided the request is made prior to your last course. Submit an online application to the MFA program and provide three letters of reference.
