How to Apply

The graduate committee reviews completed applications upon receipt. Only completed application files are reviewed.

Application Deadlines:

Fall Start
Early Application Deadline*: Jan. 30

Spring or Summer Start
Early Application Deadline*: Nov. 01

All applications are processed and reviewed on a rolling basis. Applications are accepted up to one month before the start of classes for that particular semester (fall, spring, summer).

*Early application is encouraged, especially for those applying for a graduate assistantship.

Application Materials:

  1. Completed online application
  2. Official application transcripts
    Note: If your undergraduate and/or graduate degrees are from an institution located outside of the United States, you must use a transcript credential evaluation service to obtain a course-by-course report. The official reports must be sent directly to Duquesne University from the organization you order through and will qualify as official transcripts. Please review our Transcript Credential Evaluation Directions.
  3. Three letters of reference
  4. Self-nomination letter: 
    • Indicate the track (Creative and Strategic Media, Interactive Design, or Photography and Film) you intend to study and the semester (fall, spring, summer) you intend to start. 
    • State reasons for pursuing a graduate degree and how you would contribute to the program. 
    • Describe relevant interests, activities and work.
  5. One or more of the following: Website address, Portfolio, or Writing sample.
  6. Candidate interview. Once application materials are submitted, you will be contacted for an interview.
  7. International applicants must also submit official TOEFL or IELTS test scores.

Certificate in Media Arts and Technology requires the following:

  1. Official application transcripts
  2. Self-nomination letter
  3. One or more of the following: Website address, Portfolio, or Writing sample.
  4. International applicants must also submit their official TOEFL or IELTS test scores.
