Human Factors Facility

At the Duquesne Media Human Factors Facility, we study interface technologies for the purpose of making them useful, efficient and engaging to technology users.

We seek to understand the needs and expectations of humans when interacting with computational devices so that we may ultimately improve forthcoming technologies.

Human-Computer Interaction

Using the HFF facilities, we can record and track users' facial expressions, physical movements, and system responses to systematically observe and analyze human-computer interaction processes. These analyses afford valuable insights about how users react to and utilize computing applications and devices and can ultimately help designers and developers improve their designs.

We operate guided by the following goals:
  • To support academic departmental courses, academic and business services and the Duquesne University community by providing facilities to study human-computer interaction.
  • To support and promote HCI research and development efforts of students and faculty as they seek to understand the ways interface and information technologies affect users.
  • To seek real-world experiences for students. The intention of the research facility is to provide applied research. To that point, we will seek government, industrial and other educators desiring to do real-world research within its facility.
  • To support the capturing, editing and analyzing of live user performance data in a variety of formats.
  • To support persons with disabilities by examining and evaluating assistive technologies and software designed to enhance information access.
  • To provide students opportunities to design, conduct and participate in usability evaluation studies.
  • To complement course work of Media and other academic departments, enhance students’ professional development and provide them direct HCI experience in applied settings.
