Requirements for a Major in Classical Civilizations

The department offers a major program of study of 30 credits in Classical Civilizations.  The study of the Latin language is recommended but not required.

Students take 30 credits from among the following areas:

  • Ancient History
  • Ancient Literature courses in English
  • Latin courses*

*Courses at the 200-level and above also count toward the McAnulty College's literature requirement. Courses at or above the 202 level automatically fulfills the McAnulty College's language requirement.

Students are invited to consult with the department for additional information. A student's major is not officially declared until the student completes the Major/Minor Declaration Form.  To complete the Major/Minor Declaration Form:

  • Log into DORI>index>Academics>Schools>Liberal Arts>Undergraduate College>Major/Minor Declaration Form.
After you complete the form, you will be notified by the department that the form has been received, and you will need to make an appointment to meet with the chairperson of the department.
