Our master's program receives many applications from various countries. The diversity within our program provides an enriching experience for all of our students. To ensure that all admitted students get the most from their learning experience, we require international students to submit standardized test scores measuring their English proficiency (i.e. TOEFL or IELTS).

In addition to the application materials listed under the "How to Apply" link, we are looking for a TOEFL score of 80 (or an IELTS score of 7 or 6.5 depending on sub-scores) for full admission to the program.
International students may get conditional/provisional admission if they have IELTS scores of 5, 5.5, 6 or 6.5 depending on sub-scores. Provisional admission is granted based on the quality of the application materials (i.e., GRE scores, GPA, application narrative, sample work, references). Students with provisional admission would take ESL classes, typically for 1 to 3 semesters, depending on their performance. Once they obtain clearance from ESL, their provision is removed, and they can start taking full load of classes towards their master's degree in Media Arts and Technology.
For those who have a TOEFL score of 60-79 (IELTS scores of 6 or 6.5 depending on sub-scores), Duquesne University offers a Pathway Program, which allows international students to take courses towards their master's degree while working on their ESL. The Pathway Program provides a smooth transition to our master's program.
Applicants with IELTS scores lower than 5 will not be considered for admission. We encourage students with IELTS scores lower than 5 to apply directly to the ESL Studies.
