Ambassador Thomas P. Melady Endowed Scholarship

Thomas Melady Inspired by Duquesne University graduate Mark Paoletta and his wife Patricia, the Ambassador Thomas P. Melady Endowed Scholarship supports study at American University's Washington Semester program. This scholarship is available to junior political science majors who want to pursue a career in public service.

To apply, state in your McAnulty College internship application essay that you are applying for the scholarship and explain why you believe the Washington Semester program will help you achieve your goal of a career in public service. The College will award the Melady Scholarship after the application deadline.

Thomas P. Melady (left) served as U.S. ambassador to Burundi, Uganda and the Vatican, working closely with Pope John Paul II. He was a 1950 graduate of Duquesne University. Paoletta, former assistant general counsel to President George H.W. Bush and chief investigative counsel in the U.S. House of Representatives, was a longtime friend of Ambassador Melady.
