Emily Lapisardi (MM Sacred Music, 2016) was recently appointed Director of Music at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Chapel on the campus of the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY. She is responsible for playing the organ for all Catholic liturgies, including numerous weddings and funerals, directing the Catholic Cadet and Family choirs on post and for touring appearances, planning all Catholic liturgical music in collaboration with West Point's Catholic Chaplains, and coordinating the chapel's Cadet Pocket Orchestra and guest musicians.
Prior to attending Duquesne, Ms. Lapisardi obtained her Bachelor's Degree in vocal performance from West Virginia University, where she was named WVU Foundation Outstanding Senior, Honors College J. and C. Nath Outstanding Senior in Research, and received the university's nomination for the Rhodes and Marshall Scholarship. She attended several opera training programs in the U.S. and Europe, including the late Claudia Pinza's EPCASO program in Italy and helped to found the period music program at Old Economy Village in Ambridge, PA. After entering the Catholic Church in 2011, Lapisardi felt called to music ministry and began organ studies with Dr. Jason Keefer. At his urging, she applied for and was accepted to Duquesne's Sacred Music Program, where she studied with Dr. Ann Labounsky and became a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda national music honor society.
Emily also holds a certificate of Catholic Liturgy from the University of Notre Dame's STEP program and has served as director of music at the Church of St. Paul (Greensburg, PA) and St. Joseph Parish (Uniontown, PA). Her other organ teachers have included J. Christopher Pardini, Edgar Highberger, and Isabelle Demers, with whom she studied at the American Guild of Organists' POE+ summer program.
