Ethan M. LaPlaca

Ethan LaPlacaEthan M. LaPlaca (B.S. Music Education, 2011) and Brent Weber (Coordinator of Voice Area), along with the Episcopal Cathedral of St Paul, Erie, performed daily during a weeklong residency in Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford University, England.

Ethan LaPlaca is the Director of Choral Activities at Mt. Lebanon High School, where he conducts the Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Men's Ensemble, and Triple Trio. In addition, he directs the annual spring musical and teaches AP Music Theory. He earned his bachelor's degree in music education from Duquesne University, where he studied organ with Ann Labounsky and David Craighead. Additional studies were completed in voice with Patricia Donohue-Burns and choral conducting with Christine Jordanoff. He holds the Colleague certificate from the American Guild of Organists (CAGO).

Mr. LaPlaca has performed organ recitals throughout western Pennsylvania at venues including Heinz Memorial Chapel, Calvary Episcopal Church, and the Smith Chapel of the Behrend College Campus of the Pennsylvania State University. He has also been a featured artist on various local recital series including Westminster Presbyterian Church's Organ Summer (Upper St. Clair), St. Paul Cathedral's Summer Organ Concert Series (Pittsburgh), and The Johnstown Concert Series (Johnstown, PA).

In addition to his teaching career at Mt. Lebanon, Mr. LaPlaca maintains a freelance career as a conductor, vocalist, recitalist, and accompanist throughout the Pittsburgh region. He is an active member of NAfME: the National Association for Music Education, the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA), and the Pittsburgh chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO).
