Duquesne Young Artists National Competition

The Duquesne Young Artists National Competition is a collaboration between City Music Center of Duquesne University, the Mary Pappert School of Music, and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

There are two primary divisions of the Duquesne Young Artists National Competition (DYANC). All participants must be 18 years of age and under as of May 15, 2020 and must not have graduated from highschool:

Concerto Division
Piano & Strings (violin, viola, cello, bass)

Young musicians are competing for cash prizes and a chance to perform live in concert with the GRAMMY Award-winning Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Deadline for submissions: Friday, April 3, 2020. Finals held on Friday, May 15, 2020 at the Mary Pappert School of Music, Duquesne University.

Prizes:

  • 1st - $500 + Concerto performance with PSO
  • 2nd - $300 prize
  • 3rd - $200 prize
  • Honorable Mention

Solo Division
Piano & Strings (violin, viola, cello, harp)

Young musicians are competing in two instrumental divisions, Piano and Strings (violin, viola, cello, harp) for cash prizes in two age brackets (9-13, 14-18). Deadline for submissions: Friday, April 3, 2020. Each division (Piano and Strings) will award three winners from each age group (12 winners total) to perform at the Winners Circle Concert held on Friday, May 15, 2020 at the Mary Pappert School of Music, PNC Recital Hall 7:00pm. Winners must perform in the Winner Circle Concert; prizes will be forfeited otherwise.

Piano Prizes (age bracket 9-13):

  • 1st - $200 prize
  • 2nd - $100 prize
  • 3rd - $75 prize

  • 1st - $200 prize
  • 2nd - $100 prize
  • 3rd - $75 prize

Strings Prizes (age bracket 9-13):

  • 1st - $200 prize
