Final Season of Schubert on the Bluff Kicks Off
On September 26, the Schubert on the Bluff series kicked off its third and final year, under the artistic direction David Allen Wehr, holder of Jack W. Geltz Distinguished Piano Chair, to a nearly sold out crowd. The Schubert on the Bluff series is a three-season series featuring the works of Austrian composer, Franz Schubert. Each year, works by one guest composer are also featured on each concert. This year's guest composer is Claude Debussy.
Debussy's contribution to Concert IX: Octet was Sonata for Cello and Piano. The next three pieces written by Schubert were Piano Sonata in C Minor, "Gelagart unter'm" duet, and Octet in F Major. The performers were David Allen Wehr, Xiu-ru Liu, Guenko Guechev, Charles and Rachel Stegeman, Randolph Kelly, Adam Liu, Aaron White, Ron Samuels, Philip Pandolfi, and Zachary Smith.
Year three of the series consists of four more concerts, each featuring works by Schubert and Debussy. Tickets are $15 and are selling quickly. For information on the concert series and how to get tickets, please visit duq.edu/Schubert.
