Students Selected to Participate in International Blues Competition

Spencer McNeill and Alex Weibel stand next to Mary Pappert School of Music

Alex Weibel and Spencer McNeil are both sophomores in the Mary Pappert School of Music studying music education. Alex and Spencer both perform together in the band, Super Midnight, on guitar and saxophone respectively.

The band was recently granted the opportunity to participate in the International Blues Competition in Memphis. To qualify for the competition, a band is required to be nominated by a regional blues organization. After hearing a performance of the band at a local establishment, the Blues Society of Western Pennsylvania chose to nominate the group for the competition.

Super Midnight prepared a 30-minute set that included both covers and original songs. The band enjoys performing different genres of music and includes improvisation in all of their shows. Both Alex and Spencer are passionate about connecting with different audiences and musicians.

"If you're trying to play music, there's more than what's just on the page. Communicating and expressing emotions is the center of what we're trying to do", says Alex.

The band is continuing to work together towards future goals and projects. Show support for Super Midnight by following them on their Facebook and Instagram accounts.
