Violin Professor Plays for Legendary Singer Andrea Bocelli

Charles Stegeman, Professor of Violin, recently performed as concertmaster for two concerts featuring legendary tenor Andrea Bocelli. For over a decade, Stegeman has been the number one pick for this position at Bocelli's west coast concerts, totaling more than 25 concerts and well over 400,000 combined attendees.

Stegeman is a graduate of both the Juilliard School and the Curtis School of Music, where he holds degrees in violin performance. He is currently the concertmaster for the Pittsburgh Opera and Pittsburgh Ballet orchestras and travels the world playing in various ensembles.

The first of the most recent two concerts with Bocelli was held on Saturday, December 4 at the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV, with an audience of approximately 15,000. More than 18,000 attended the second, held at the Honda Arena in Anaheim, CA the next day.

In addition to Bocelli, the Anaheim concert featured David Foster on piano. Foster has been the producer for many music superstars including Andrea Bocelli, Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Chicago, Celine Dion, and local singer Jackie Evancho.

Stegeman believes that classical music still has a strong foothold in current culture, saying, "Marketed properly, classical music can sell as well as anything else. Andrea's repertoire is eighty-five percent legitimate classical/opera music, and the attendance at these concerts prove beyond a shadow of doubt that the genre is still relevant."
