Part of the Plan
On Wednesday, April 19, the NAfME Chapter #159 held an educational event entitled Part of the Plan: Leadership in High School Ensembles. Students from the Mary Pappert School of Music planned and organized the event for high school students, aimed at developing their leadership skills and furthering the success of their ensembles. Presenters included nationally renowned leadership clinician, Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, faculty members Dr. Caron Daley and Dr. Stephen Benham, and Duquesne University's NAfME collegiate chapter.
Part of the Plan: Leadership in High School Ensembles was Duquesne's first-ever high school musician leadership symposium. Throughout the day, Dr. Tim and Music Education majors from the NAfME collegiate chapter guided students through stimulating leadership sessions to help shape them into the shining leaders they are called to be in their music ensembles.
The specific leadership sessions were designed to target current, engaging topics on leadership that apply to band, orchestra, and choral ensembles. Along with these overarching musician leadership sessions, students had the opportunity to work with Dr. Caron Daley, Dr. Stephen Benham, and Dr. Tim in specific leadership workshops tailored to their specialties.
Founded in 1878, Duquesne is consistently ranked among the nation's top Catholic universities for its award-winning faculty and horizon-expanding education. A campus of nearly 9,500 graduate and undergraduate students, Duquesne prepares students by having them work alongside faculty to discover and reach their goals.
