One important aspect of Community-Engaged Learning in Science is to build students' awareness of global communities.
Community is not just where you live, but also how you live. We often think of community as only the small groups of friends we create, our families, our universities, our cities and towns, but community is also the sense of belonging we create through social interaction.
Community-Engaged Learning in Science seeks to expand students' grasp of this idea to help them better understand how they, not just their skills and knowledge, fit into the global community.
Civic Engagement Activities
The Civic Engagement component of Community-Engaged Learning in Science consists of these student activities:
